Conditional logic

Make the form react to the user's answers.

🎯 What does logic mean?

By default every question is shown to everyone. With logic you say "open this question only for these people".

The result is that the form feels shorter and everyone sees only what applies to them.

✨ Ready-made rules — the fastest way

In the "Logic" tab, click "Start from a preset". Seventeen commonly used rules are ready in six categories: show and hide, satisfaction and feedback, screening, flow and jumps, scoring, and notifications.

Each preset says exactly what it does and which questions of your own form it will be built on. Fields are pre-selected by type — for example, it picks the "Why?" box from among the long-text fields, not from the short name field.

Once created, you can change anything about it. A preset that can't be built from your form's fields isn't shown at all.

The most used one is "low score → ask why": anyone who gives 3 or less gets a comment box opened and made required.

🧩 Every rule has two parts

A rule means: "if [condition] then [action]". Open the "Logic" tab in the form editor and click "New rule".

The simplest possible example
If: "What is your opinion?" = option 1
Then: show the "Reason for your choice" box
And: make that same box required
One rule can perform up to 20 actions at once; you don't need a separate rule for each action.
You can combine up to 20 conditions with "all conditions" (AND) or "any condition" (OR).

🔍 Conditions you can set

Equals / not equal · contains / does not contain · starts with · ends with

Selected / not selected · one of · none of

Greater than · less than · between two numbers

Number of selections equals / more than / fewer than

Before a date · after a date · between two dates

Is filled / is empty · regular expression (regex)

⚡ Actions you can take

Display: show · hide · make required · make optional · disable

Flow: jump to page · disqualify (end the form) · redirect to an external link · ending page

Data: set a value automatically · add points · send a notification

🧠 Three rules you should know

1) A field that is the target of a "show" rule is hidden by default. That means you don't need to hide it separately.

2) If two rules affect the same field, the lower rule wins.

3) A condition placed on a hidden field is always false, because a hidden field has no value at all.

🛡️ Why it can't be bypassed

Logic doesn't run only in the browser. On submission, the server recomputes every rule from scratch and discards the values of hidden fields.

So if someone opens a hidden box with developer tools and fills it in, that data is never saved.

🔁 No loops

If you build a rule where A affects B and B in turn affects A, you get a red error immediately and it won't save.

This is deliberate: such a loop would mean the form never settles on a result.

📊 Its effect on reports

Every question has its own denominator. If the comment box opened for only 30 out of 100 people, the report says "Answered: 30" and calculates the percentages on those 30.

So conditional questions don't dilute your statistics.

Conditional logic is checked when you publish; if your free account card doesn't include "Conditional logic", every plan from "Basic" and "Class" up has it.
