Exam on your own site, with entry for authorized people only

Put an "Exam" option on your website and let only authorized people in — step by step.

Go to exams

🎯 At a glance

The exam runs on its own page on Porsino. On your own website you add an "Exam" button or menu item that opens that page, and in the exam itself you decide who is allowed in.

So there are two jobs: ① the way in from your site (link, button or menu) ② access control (who can start the exam). Both are explained step by step below.

🧭 Step by step: authorized people only, from your own site

  1. 1 In the exam, open "Questions and settings → Look & entry" and set the entry method to "With identity details" Tick at least "National ID" or "Employee ID" among the identity fields; that identifier makes each participant unique.
  2. 2 Go to the "Delivery" tab and click "Paste from Excel" Copy the name, class and national ID columns (or employee ID, mobile, email) from Excel and paste them.
  3. 3 Turn on the "Roster only" switch From then on only people whose identifier is on the roster can start the exam; everyone else sees the message "Your name is not on this exam's participant list".
  4. 4 In "Time & scoring" set the exam window and allowed attempts, then publish the exam Outside the window the start button is disabled.
  5. 5 In the "Share" tab, open the "Exam on your own site" card Change the button text and color, and copy the "Button code" or "Link only".
  6. 6 Create an "Exam" button or menu item on your site WordPress: Appearance → Menus → "Custom Links"; URL = the exam link, text = "Exam". Or a "Custom HTML" block with the button code.
  7. 7 Try it yourself once with a national ID that is on the roster and one that isn't, to be sure
If someone has no national ID, fill in "Employee ID", "Student number", "Mobile" or "Email" for them; any one identifier is enough.
Want two locks? Also put a password on the same exam; the password is asked before the identity form.
"Paste from Excel", "Roster only", contact groups and the device lock are unlocked from the "School" plan up; personal invitations and a password are the free ways to admit only allowed people.

🚪 Entry methods

Public link: anyone with the link can get in; for open and practice exams.

With identity details: before starting it asks for whichever of name, national ID, employee ID, email, mobile and class / department you tick; national IDs and mobile numbers are validated. Together with "Roster only" it is the most reliable way to allow authorized people only.

Personal invitation: each participant gets their own one-time link, and nobody gets in without it.

With password: the password is asked on the exam's start page and checked on the server; until they enter it, they see nothing but the exam title. Set the password right there in "Look & entry" or in "Share → Link settings".

With payment: the exam fee is paid through the payment gateway before entry.

The "With password" method without a password means the exam is open to everyone; the exam builder and the "Delivery" tab flag this with a yellow warning.

📋 Class roster, extra time and extra attempts

In the "Delivery" tab click "Paste from Excel". Each line is one participant, and columns are separated by tabs (copied from Excel), commas or semicolons.

Recognized headers: name (or "full name"), class or group, national ID, employee ID (or "student number"), mobile, email, "extra time" (minutes) and "extra attempts". Without headers the order "name, class, national ID, mobile, email" is assumed.

Each participant needs at least one of national ID, employee ID, mobile or email, and rows without an identifier are skipped; up to 3,000 people per exam.

You write each participant's extra time and extra attempts in the same table; name and class are attached to their paper automatically when they enter. "Roster only" lets in only people who enter with one of the registered identifiers.

Example (in Excel each value is its own column; copy the same rows)
Name | Class | National ID | Extra time
Sara Ahmadi | 7A | 0012345679 | 10
Ali Rezaei | 7B | 0023456781 |

👥 Contact groups: one list for several exams

If you run several exams for one fixed group (say ten medical-course exams for “Medical students”), you don’t need to paste the list into each exam. Build a list once under “Contacts” and enter each person’s name and email (or mobile or personnel code) by hand or from Excel.

Then, in each exam’s “Delivery” tab, pick the list in the “Contact groups” card and press “Link to this exam”. If the list has a “Group” column you can link just one group (for example only “Implant” from the dentistry list). The first link also switches on “Only this list”.

Membership is read live when an exam starts: anyone you add to the list can take every linked exam right away, and removing them from the list closes all of them. The “Contacts” page also shows, above each list, which exams it opens.

A participant is recognised by the email, mobile or national/personnel code that is on the list, so choose “Identity details” in the exam settings and ask for that same item. Their name is filled in next to their paper automatically.

The exam’s own class roster stays valid alongside the groups; for one person’s extra time or extra attempt, put them on that exam’s roster too.

📱 Device lock: one buyer, one device

If you sell access and don't want buyers to pass their name and email on to others, turn on “Device lock”: each person on the list can only enter from the device they first used (like a Spotify account). Anyone else who arrives with the same name and email from another device sees “This access is already active on another device”.

  1. 1 First define who is allowed: in the “Delivery” tab, link a contact group or paste a class roster “Only this list” is then on; device lock can't be turned on without it.
  2. 2 In the same tab, turn on the “Device lock” card Pick how many devices each participant may use (1 to 3) and, if you like, add a support contact (e.g. a Telegram ID) to show in the other-device message.
  3. 3 To release a device, click the badge in the “Device” column next to the person's name in “Contacts” In the window that opens, click “Release device”; their next device is registered right away. The same option is in “Participants → Devices”.
Devices are shared across all your locked exams: a buyer reaches all of them from that one device.
Clearing cookies or a private window in the same browser still counts as the same device; another browser or another phone is a new device.
Next to each participant you see how many sign-ins from another device were blocked; a high number probably means they shared their details.
Device lock doesn't stop someone lending the phone or computer itself; it only stops the same name and email from opening on more devices.

✉️ Single-use invitations

In "Look & entry" set the entry method to "Personal invitation", then in the "Delivery" tab, "Personal invitations" card, write one participant per line: name, and optionally national ID or email.

"Uses" sets how many times each link works (default 1). "Create invitations" makes a personal link for each one.

"Export links (CSV)" gives you names, codes, links and use counts for Excel, so you can send them by email, SMS or your own system; next to each name you can also see whether its link has been used.

With this method the public button on your site leads to the message "An invitation code is required"; each participant must open their own link.

⏰ Time, attempts and device lock

In "Time & scoring": exam duration (server-side timer), exam window and number of attempts. Outside the window the start button is disabled.

In "Security": how violations are handled, fullscreen, detecting when someone leaves the page, and "Lock to the same IP" (the exam is locked to the network it was started on). "Second session warning" only records a second tab in the same browser.

Locking participants to their device is done only with the "Device lock" card on the "Delivery" tab (higher up on this page).

If the browser is closed or the internet drops, the participant continues from where they were and the server keeps their time.

🌐 Putting it on your site: link, button or menu

In the "Share" tab you see the exam link and its permanent short link. The short link keeps working even if you change the custom address; use that one on your site.

The "Exam on your own site" card gives you ready code for a button that opens the exam in a new tab; change its text, color and shape right there.

WordPress: a "Custom HTML" block with the button code, or a "Button" block with the same link and "Open in new tab". For the menu: Appearance → Menus → "Custom Links". Elementor: the "Button" or "HTML" widget. Plain HTML site: put the code where the button should be.

Sample button code (built with your own link in the Share card)
<a href="https://porsino.com/e/14050620-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener"
   style="display:inline-block;padding:12px 28px;border-radius:999px;background:#6366f1;color:#ffffff;text-decoration:none">Take the exam</a>
Exams are not embedded inside a website page (iframe): the timer, full screen, leaving-the-page tracking and resuming the exam don't work reliably inside another site's frame. Old embed codes now show a "Start the exam in a new tab" button instead of a blank page.

🏷️ Exams on your own domain

Exams and forms can open on a Porsino subdomain or your own domain (such as exam.yoursite.com); setup is covered in the “Custom domain” guide, and an exam can even be that domain's home page.

A button or menu item on your site can point straight to that address; since the exam opens in a new tab, your site stays open too.
