Exams and question bank

Building exams, timers, anti-cheating, grading, and individual and group report cards.

🧭 A new exam and its tabs

In the panel menu, go to "Exams" → "New exam", give it a title and click "Create exam and add questions". The empty exam opens with a step-by-step guide.

The exam's tabs: "Questions and settings" (with the sections "Questions", "Time & scoring", "Look & entry", "Security" and "Results and certificate"), "Delivery", "Participants", "Grading", "Results & analytics", "Reports" and "Share".

📚 Questions: in the exam itself or from the bank

Write questions right there with "Add question", bring them in "From the bank", or create them "With AI".

The question bank is for questions used in several exams: it has tree categories, difficulty levels and tags, and you can import questions from Excel or Word too.

🎲 Question selection: manual or rule-based

"Manual — same set for everyone": you arrange the questions yourself.

"Rule-based — a different set for each person": you say "5 easy questions from chapter 2 and 3 hard questions from chapter 4" and the system picks randomly for each participant. That means no two people get the same paper.

Does the exam already have participants? You can still add new questions: only later participants see them, and earlier scores stay as they are. Questions already given to someone stay in place, locked; in a rule-based exam the rules can be changed later too.

⏱️ Timer and anti-cheating

The exam clock is kept by the server, not the browser. If someone sets their computer clock forward or back, nothing happens.

In "Security" you control leaving the page, copy and paste, and full screen; webcam, timed sections, practice mode and certificates are covered in the guide "Advanced exams".

🔐 Who gets in, and from where

Entry methods (public link, identity details, personal invitation, password or payment), the class roster with "Roster only" and the "Take the exam" button for your site are covered step by step in the guide "Exam on your own site, with entry for authorized people only".

✅ Grading

Closed-ended questions are graded automatically. For essay questions you have the "Grading" tab → "Grading queue": you see one question for all participants in a row and score them — much faster than going through the papers one by one.

If a question turns out to be defective, click "Remove a defective question"; everyone's score is recalculated automatically.

🧾 Report cards — individual and group

In the "Participants" tab, click "Report card" for any person to open it right there on the page: score, rank, performance per topic, and a question-by-question review with the answer given and the correct answer. There are PDF and print buttons too.

The "Group report card" view in the same "Participants" tab gives the class view: mean and median, pass rate, score distribution, weakest topic, and the "Score list" — a table with people as rows and questions as columns. Click any row to open that person's report card.

Each question's "discrimination index" tells you whether that question separated strong students from weak ones; a negative number means the question or its answer key has a problem.
The group report card's Excel export has four sheets: summary, grade list, per question and per topic.
The exam builder is free if it's on the free account card; otherwise the "Exams & education" plans (from "Class") and "Research" include it, and for a one-off exam there's also the "Exam participant pack".
