Exam results: who sees them, when and where

When results are released, why a participant can't see them, where to see them later, and where results, report cards and certificates are for you.

Go to exams

🎯 Two settings: when to release, how much to show

In the exam, “Questions & settings” → the “Results and certificate” section → the “Result release” card. “Result release time” has three modes: “Immediate” (right after the exam ends), “After the deadline” (when the exam window closes; nobody sees it earlier) and “Manual” (when you click “Release results manually”).

“How much of the result is shown”: “Score only”, “Score + correct answers” or “Score + correct answers + explanation”. The “Answer review” list with the correct answers appears only in the last two.

A new exam defaults to “Immediate” and “Score only”, but presets change this: “Classroom exam” sets “After the deadline”, and “Formal exam” and “Hiring test” set “Manual”.

The “Score and grade bands” card decides how the score is shown: “Display scale”, “Show standard score” and “Descriptive grade bands”.

🙈 Why a participant can't see the result

A participant whose result isn't released sees “Exam submitted” and “This exam's result hasn't been released yet” with a “Check again” button. The reason is almost always one of these:

  1. 1 The mode is “Manual” and you haven't clicked “Release results manually” Or you clicked before this person submitted; attempts submitted after the click stay hidden until you click again.
  2. 2 The mode is “After the deadline” but “Exam window closes” is empty or hasn't arrived Without an end date this mode never releases on its own — the “Classroom exam” preset sets exactly this; set an end date in “Time & scoring” or choose “Immediate”.
  3. 3 It has ungraded questions In “Immediate” and “After the deadline”, the result stays hidden until any “Short answer” without accepted answers, “Long essay” or “File upload” is graded in the “Grading queue”; it's released automatically when the last score is saved.
  4. 4 It's a different browser or device The result is tied to the browser the exam was taken in (for up to a month); a private window, cleared site data or another phone can't see it.
  5. 5 They didn't finish the exam The message “This exam isn't finished yet” means the attempt hasn't been submitted; “Submit overdue attempts” in “Participants” closes abandoned attempts.
  6. 6 They see the score but not the answers “How much of the result is shown” is set to “Score only”.

✅ Show the result right after the exam

  1. 1 In “Results and certificate” → “Result release”, set “Result release time” to “Immediate”
  2. 2 In “How much of the result is shown”, decide whether the correct answers are shown too
  3. 3 If you have “Short answer” questions, write their “Accepted answers” Empty = manual grading; without them the result waits for grading.
  4. 4 Wait for “Saved” at the top of the page The setting saves automatically and applies to later attempts; for people who already took the exam, click “Release results manually” once.

📣 Manual release

The “Release results manually” button is at the bottom of the “Results and certificate” section inside “Manual actions” (it isn't in the step-by-step wizard; click “Full editor”). It releases every attempt submitted up to that moment — even ungraded ones; those show the “Awaiting grading” badge and the line “Some answers haven't been graded yet”.

If certificates are on, the same click also issues certificates to those who passed; “Bulk certificate issuance” is there too.

🔁 Where a participant sees the result later

They reopen the same exam link in the same browser; the page loads the result by itself. The “Report card” has the score, “Pass” or “Fail”, right and wrong counts, rank and a chart by topic, plus “PDF report card” and — if they earned one — “Certificate (PDF)” and “Certificate image”.

There's no result tracking code, no result lookup page, and results aren't sent by email or SMS. If participants switch devices, after release download each person's report card as PDF from “Participants” → “Report card” and send it yourself. Anyone can verify a certificate with its code or QR on the verification page.

🗂️ Results, report cards and certificates for you

The “Participants” tab: “Attempts” with each person's score and status and the “Paper & grade”, “Report card” and “Behavior” buttons; “Group report card” with the average, the “Score list” and “Export Excel (score list)”.

The “Results & analytics” tab: “Gradebook” with “Excel export” and “Item & class analysis”.

Certificates are issued automatically to those who passed once results are visible, and participants download them from their result page; each person's certificate code is written in their “Report card”. There's no separate certificate list or download for you.
